Kenyan Authorities Deports Nigerian National After Assault On Kenyan Woman

Naija News informs that Noko was deported on Saturday, May 4, after being captured on CCTV cameras assaulting a Kenyan woman who was wheelchair-bound. This disturbing incident has once again brought to the forefront the pressing issue of gender-based violence (GBV) within the nation.

The deportation announcement came through a joint press release issued by the Ministry of Gender, Culture, The Arts, and Heritage, specifically the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action.

The statement underscored the severity of the offense, emphasizing, “The violent act not only infringed upon the rights of an individual but also shed light on the broader challenges of gender-based violence prevalent in our society.”

The case attracted public attention following a report by Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba to the Karen Police Station after her visit to the victim’s residence.

The victim, expressing concerns for her safety, disclosed that Noko had issued threats to her and her two domestic aides, warning of dire consequences if they were to expose his actions.

The swift intervention of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure and Immigration PS Julius Bitok ensued following Senator Orwoba’s report, leading to Noko’s apprehension and subsequent deportation.

Senator Orwoba, a staunch advocate for the rights of women and against violence, seized upon this incident to renew calls for an end to such crimes, emphasizing their profound physical, emotional, and societal ramifications.

Through her social media platform, she affirmed, “We are committed to eradicating Gender-Based Violence, one case at a time. This serves as a stern warning to all perpetrators out there! There is absolutely no tolerance for Gender-Based Violence in Kenya. This is just the beginning…”

This expulsion follows a series of similar incidents where Nigerian nationals were deported from Kenya due to their alleged involvement in criminal activities, including drug trafficking.

On March 18, 2024, five Nigerian individuals faced deportation and were declared persona non grata for their suspected roles in similar offenses.
