Governor Ahmed Ododo announced this during a ceremony on Saturday at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in Felele, Lokoja, where the state government officially handed over the 88 healthcare centres to contractors for revitalisation.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, Governor Ododo emphasized that this initiative follows the ongoing revitalisation of over 70 Primary Healthcare Centres, which are at various stages of completion after being approved by the state government in March 2024.
He highlighted that the revamping of these centres, which will upgrade over 150 institutions to functional Level-2 health facilities, demonstrates the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare access across the state.
“With the invaluable support of the World Bank, the Kogi State Government has committed over ₦7 billion to this project, reflecting our dedication to enhancing the lives of our citizens,” Ododo said.
The governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his visionary leadership in prioritizing healthcare access for ordinary Nigerians, especially those in rural areas.
He acknowledged the efforts of the previous administration led by former Governor Yahaya Bello for establishing a strong foundation in the health sector.
Governor Ododo urged contractors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism to ensure timely completion of the projects within four months. He also called for collaboration with local government authorities and community stakeholders to ensure inclusive and environmentally sustainable project implementation.
Additionally, the governor emphasized the importance of effective supervision by relevant government authorities, coordinated by the state Ministry of Health, to guarantee the success of these healthcare upgrades.
