Kwankwaso’s Scheme to Diminish Ganduje’s Political Clout in Kano, Mocked by APC’s Ganduje

Written By Oshiobugie John

In the intricate web of Kano politics, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lobbed accusations at Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), alleging a deliberate ploy to undercut the political standing of APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, in the state. Prof Abdulkareem Kana, the National Legal Adviser of the APC, made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The rift between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, both former governors of Kano, stems from political disparities in the state. However, Kana pointed fingers at the NNPP leadership and its cohorts in Kano, attributing a series of orchestrated protests aimed at ousting Ganduje as the national chairman of the APC.

These protests, Kana contends, are a strategic maneuver to render Ganduje ineffectual ahead of the forthcoming state elections. He emphasized that such tactics aim to undermine Ganduje’s influence, which looms large in Kano.

Despite the apparent strain between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, Kana believes that the political landscape may witness a reconciliation between the two seasoned politicians. He views the current discord as a transient phase in the intricate dance of politics.

Responding to these allegations, Ladipo Johnson, the National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, dismissed the APC’s claims, labeling the party as disoriented, with a leader ensnared in illusions.

Johnson asserted that Kwankwaso bears no responsibility for Ganduje’s predicament, which he attributes to the latter’s internal party conflicts. He pointed to Ganduje’s ongoing skirmish with his ward’s party executives, highlighting a lack of fortitude in facing legal challenges.

The recent turbulence surrounding Ganduje’s tenure has been marked by protests demanding his resignation and the restoration of party leadership to the North Central zone, previously occupied by Abdullahi Adamu.

These demonstrations coincide with Ganduje’s suspension by a faction of his ward executive and bribery allegations levied against him by the Kano State government.

Amidst the political theater unfolding in Kano, the narratives of power, ambition, and intrigue intersect, shaping the destiny of the state’s political landscape.
