Lebechi announced his departure from the Labour Party during a plenary session held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, citing unresolved internal crises that have weakened the party’s foundation. His defection was formally acknowledged in a letter read aloud by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu.

In the letter, Lebechi stated that the Labour Party is “almost dead” due to lingering internal conflicts, prompting his decision to seek a more stable political platform. He also highlighted his admiration for Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, praising the governor’s visionary leadership and ongoing efforts to transform Enugu into a model state.

“The Labour Party has been in turmoil for years, and the issues remain unresolved. After extensive consultations with my constituents and key party stakeholders, it became clear that the situation is beyond repair,” Lebechi explained.

“My constituents encouraged me to join a party with a better future, and I’ve chosen the PDP,” he added.

While expressing appreciation to his former supporters, Lebechi said the move was necessary to ensure effective representation for the people of Isi-Uzo.

He praised Governor Mbah’s “unusual” approach to governance, citing achievements in security, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, and digital innovation.

“As a Computer Science graduate, I understand the impact of technology and innovation, and I’ve seen Governor Mbah put those words into action. He’s working tirelessly to transform Enugu, and I’ve decided to support that vision wholeheartedly,” Lebechi declared.
