Lady Sends Strong Message To Men: If You Want Traditional Wife Duties, Provide

A Nigerian lady has sparked a heated conversation about relationships, financial responsibilities and traditional gender roles after claiming that some Nigerian men are increasingly seeking women who are financially successful and capable of contributing substantially to a relationship.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the lady made the remarks in a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she argued that financial contributions should influence how domestic responsibilities are shared between couples.

She claimed that some men are now deliberately pursuing wealthy women because of the financial benefits they can bring to relationships and marriages.

The lady further argued that when a woman earns more than her husband and assumes the responsibility of providing financially for the household, she should not automatically be expected to perform all traditional domestic duties.

According to her, a woman who provides financially should not be expected to simultaneously carry the entire burden of household chores, childcare and other traditional responsibilities.

She said women who find themselves in such situations should expect their partners to contribute in other areas of the home.

The lady stated, “Most Nigerian men are gold diggers. They’re not going for girls that do not have anything to offer anymore. Nigerian men are actively seeking out women that have things to offer, rich women.”

She added that if a woman is the primary provider in her marriage, her husband should be willing to take on domestic responsibilities instead of expecting her to handle everything.

“If I have money and my husband doesn’t have, he’s now expecting me to wash plates? Oga, you will wash plates,” she said, stressing that she would not be willing to provide for the family while also being solely responsible for traditional wife duties.

Her comments have generated discussion about changing relationship dynamics, particularly the expectations surrounding financial contributions, household chores and gender roles in modern Nigerian marriages.

While some people believe domestic responsibilities should be shared based on circumstances and individual agreements, others maintain that household duties should not necessarily be determined by who earns more.
