This scheme covers the expenses associated with normal pregnancy delivery, Caesarean section procedures, and antenatal care conducted in state-owned hospitals.
The health palliative initiative was introduced as part of the relief measures rolled out by the state government to alleviate the challenges faced by residents due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
The governor expressed, “I needed to personally assess the situation and determine where our intervention is required, both specifically and generally.”
According to the provided statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu entered the hospital premises without prior notice at exactly 6:35 pm. He quietly proceeded to the maternity ward, where he encountered two expectant mothers undergoing examinations.
One of the expectant mothers, Odeyemi Omowunmi, is currently in an advanced stage of pregnancy but is not yet due for delivery. The 37-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital earlier than scheduled due to unstable blood pressure—a condition that had led to two previous miscarriages.
The medical team advised her to remain under constant observation until her scheduled delivery to ensure the health of both mother and child.
It was emphasized that the medical care provided to Odeyemi is completely free of charge, as all associated expenses are covered under the health palliative scheme initiated by Governor Sanwo-Olu across Lagos State-owned General Hospitals.
