The Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology (LAMIST) announced on Monday the completion of the initial phase of a project aimed at significantly reducing the cost of Internet connectivity.

Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, the Commissioner of LAMIST, revealed this milestone during the ministry’s presentation of achievements at the 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing in Lagos. Alake disclosed that as part of the project, 2700 kilometers of fiber duct had been laid across the state.

Speaking at the briefing held to mark the first year of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term, Alake outlined that Phase II of the initiative involves the installation of an additional 3,300 kilometers of unified fiber ducts throughout Lagos. He emphasized that these ducts would be instrumental in driving down Internet connectivity costs within the state.

Alake further highlighted the deployment of 450 intelligent cameras and number plate recognition systems across Lagos. These technologies, he explained, are geared towards enhancing traffic management, eliminating guesswork, and ensuring more effective city management.

In addition to these endeavors, the commissioner announced the launch of a cybersecurity project aimed at bolstering digital safety and safeguarding the state’s infrastructure from cyber threats. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to enhance security and governance across Lagos.
