During a session chaired by Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, lawmakers specifically called attention to the abandoned Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The House urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure that HITECH Construction Company resumes work on the project without further delay.

Additionally, lawmakers demanded that all relevant agencies devise a concrete plan for completing the road while implementing security measures to protect residents.

To fast-track project execution, the Assembly resolved that contractors should receive an upfront payment of 60 to 70 percent of project funds.

Speaker Meranda also directed all legislators to compile a list of abandoned roads in their constituencies for submission to the appropriate ministry for urgent intervention.

The resolution followed a ‘matter of urgent public importance’ raised by Aro Moshood, who lamented the hardship endured by Ikorodu residents due to the stalled project.

“This road has been in a deplorable state since 2017. What was meant to bring relief has turned into a nightmare, causing security and socio-economic challenges,” Moshood stated.

He further highlighted rising criminal activities in the area, including kidnappings, accidents, and sexual assaults, all linked to the poor state of the road.

Contributing to the discussion, Abiodun Ogunleye emphasized the road’s strategic importance, arguing that its completion would significantly boost local economic activities.

Similarly, Lukmon Olumoh criticized the prolonged delay, noting that the Assembly had already approved funds for the project in the previous year.

“It is unacceptable that a road project has been abandoned for over seven years. I was part of a committee that inspected road projects last year, and contractors blamed the fluctuating exchange rate for the delays,” Olumoh remarked.
