Legal Expert Condemns Nigerian Immigration For Arresting BobriskyHuman rights lawyer Festus Ogun has voiced his strong opposition to the arrest of Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). Ogun expressed his concerns on Facebook, asserting that the arrest infringes upon Bobrisky’s constitutional rights, particularly his rights to free movement and personal liberty as outlined in the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ogun pointed out that there are no charges against Bobrisky that would justify his arrest or ongoing harassment. He stated, “The NIS’s recent arrest of Bobrisky while attempting to travel out of Nigeria is arbitrary, illegal, and unconstitutional. Denying a Nigerian citizen the right to leave the country without legal justification is entirely unjustifiable.”

He cautioned that the NIS’s actions could create a dangerous precedent that threatens the freedoms of citizens, especially activists and those who speak out. Ogun warned, “If the NIS is allowed to act without accountability, the Nigerian state may feel emboldened to curtail the freedoms of its citizens—particularly journalists, activists, and vocal advocates—under the guise of labeling them as ‘persons of interest.’”

Bobrisky was reportedly intercepted at the Sème border by immigration officers earlier this week while attempting to leave the country. He was subsequently detained overnight at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annex in Alagbon, Lagos, sparking widespread controversy.
