List Of Northern Governors Ready To Adopt Minimum Wage Above ₦70,000Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has announced a new minimum wage of ₦80,000 for state workers, effective November 2024. Bago expressed confidence in the state’s ability to sustain this new wage, attributing it to advancements in agriculture. With this announcement, Niger State joins a group of states including Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Ogun, Ondo, Gombe, Kogi, Enugu, and Kebbi, all of which have committed to minimum wages exceeding ₦70,000, as recently mandated by President Bola Tinubu.

Here are four Northern governors implementing minimum wages above ₦70,000:

1.Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe State) – ₦71,500

Governor Yahaya signed an agreement with the NLC on October 15, 2024, to set the minimum wage at ₦71,500.

2.Ahmed Ododo (Kogi State) – ₦72,500

Governor Usman Ododo approved a minimum wage of ₦72,500 for civil servants, effective immediately, and suspended taxes on this amount for one year.

3.Nasir Idris (Kebbi State) – ₦75,000

Governor Nasir Idris announced a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for state civil servants on October 23, confirmed by NLC chairman Murtala Usman.

4.Mohammed Bago (Niger State) – ₦80,000

Governor Bago declared the ₦80,000 minimum wage after discussions with the NLC, stating, “This wage is sustainable. With our strides in agriculture, we are confident we can meet this commitment.” He also mentioned the creation of civil service farms to enhance productivity among workers.
