According to court records, the charge alleged that Gbenga, residing in Bus Terminal, Old Garage, Ado Ekiti, surreptitiously made off with a Jacket Cloth valued at N80,000, belonging to Babatunde Bagilaje, from the Oluwatedo Community. The prosecution, led by Inspector Elijah Adejare, presented witnesses and evidence, including the jacket itself and statements from both the accused and the complainant, to bolster their case.
In a dramatic twist, Gbenga, confronted with the weight of the evidence against him, pleaded guilty to the charge. However, he implored the court for leniency, expressing remorse for his actions and pleading for mercy.
In delivering the verdict, Magistrate Oluwasanmi Bakole acknowledged Gbenga’s admission of guilt but remained resolute in his decision. “I find him culpable of the single count offence on the charge,” declared Magistrate Bakole. “The accused is hereby sentenced to a four-month custodial term with hard labour at the Federal Correctional Centre facility, Ado Ekiti.”
As Gbenga’s fate is sealed behind bars, the rightful owner of the stolen suit jacket, Babatunde Bagilaje, finds solace in the resolution of the case. With justice served, the stolen garment will soon find its way back into the hands of its rightful owner, bringing closure to a tale of theft and consequence in the heart of Ado Ekiti.
