In an interview with Arise TV, Mikko argued that Nigeria should be refining its own crude oil rather than depending on imports, which he says lead to job losses and economic strain. “With the Dangote refinery capable of producing 650,000 barrels daily, why are marketers focusing on imports instead of supporting our local refineries?” he questioned.
Mikko pointed out that Nigeria’s four refineries, with a combined capacity of 445,000 barrels per day, have been non-functional. He urged the industry to address the failing refineries and the energy sector, stressing that importation drains jobs and pressures the dollar.
Highlighting the importance of local production, he added, “Our economy thrives on production, not consumption. We have the resources and the talent to refine our own crude oil.”
Mikko also advised those criticizing Dangote’s operations on monopoly grounds to instead pool resources and establish their own refineries, saying, “Rather than criticizing someone who has invested in our country, let’s focus on building and supporting local capacity.
