Military Panel Faces Scrutiny Over Visit To Killings Site: Oborevwori And Police Denied Entry, Raises Questions....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The clandestine arrival of the Military Board of Inquiry, led by Air Vice-Marshal David Ajayi, to the Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, which had been under tight control by soldiers since March 14 following the loss of 17 military personnel, has stirred up curiosity.

The unannounced visit of the AVM Ajayi-led Board of Inquiry, appointed by the Defense Headquarters in Abuja, to Okuama prior to its official commencement of proceedings in Warri, has attracted significant attention, particularly due to the prior denial of entry to the community for Delta State Governor and Chief Security Officer, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda.

This development has raised concerns about the impartiality of the military in the investigation it has undertaken, prompting scrutiny from various stakeholders.

AVM Ajayi had informed Oborevwori a few days before the start of the inquiry that the board was in the state to investigate the tragic incident at Okuama, emphasizing that their objective was to gather factual information without assigning blame.

Governor Oborevwori, who had intended to visit Okuama four days after the incident but was unable to do so due to military restrictions, later traveled to Abuja to brief President Bola Tinubu on the situation. He explained that he had not yet visited Okuama as the area was deserted and stated that managing the tense situation required caution, particularly regarding sensitive security matters.

However, a different explanation was provided earlier by Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, who cited ongoing “cordon and search” operations in Okuama due to suspected involvement in crude oil theft and weapons possession. Despite this ongoing operation, the military board of inquiry was granted access to the community, highlighting inconsistencies in the reasons provided for denying entry to certain officials.
