Minister Festus Keyamo of Aviation and Aerospace Development has urged Air France-KLM, a French airline, to make its lower-priced ticket fares available to Nigerian travelers, emphasizing the importance of fairness in ticketing. Keyamo highlighted his administration’s commitment to collaboration with airlines to improve travel accessibility and affordability for Nigerians during a meeting with Air France-KLM’s Country Manager, Christine Quantin, Key Account Manager Antonia Umunna, and Deputy Station Manager Damilola Ogunseye.
Foreign airlines, including Air France-KLM, had suspended their low-priced tickets on Nigerian routes over two years ago due to trapped ticket revenue totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. However, in March, following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s completion of a $7 billion backlog payment, including over $700 million in unremitted ticket revenue, these airlines began to unblock their low-priced fares.
At the meeting, Air France-KLM expressed appreciation for Keyamo’s intervention in facilitating fund repatriation, highlighting his commitment to overcoming challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector. They also praised Keyamo’s efforts in fostering a smoother relationship between their team and aviation regulatory agencies in Nigeria.
Furthermore, Air France-KLM announced the launch of their new Airbus A330/A350 aircraft, emphasizing their dedication to providing modern and improved aircraft services on Nigerian routes to enhance the travel experience for passengers.
In response, Keyamo welcomed the Air France-KLM team and stressed the importance of equitable pricing for Nigerian travelers. He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to fostering partnerships within the travel industry and expressed willingness to collaborate with airlines to enhance travel accessibility and affordability for all Nigerians.
The courtesy visit by Air France-KLM underscores the mutual commitment to advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector and sets the stage for future collaborations aimed at delivering unparalleled travel experiences to passengers nationwide.
