The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has formally invalidated the title of Sarkin Sasa in Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State, declaring it unrecognized under the Ibadan Traditional Chieftaincy Law.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This decision was made during the Olubadan-in-Council meeting held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

The Sarkin Sasa title became a source of controversy following the death of the previous holder, who also served as Chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers across 17 Southern states. In the aftermath, the deceased’s son, Ahmed Haruna (Ciroma), was reportedly chosen as the new Sarkin Sasa by both his family and northern traditional councils in the region—without the consent or approval of the Olubadan.

Reacting to this development, the Olubadan made it clear that the selection of Ahmed Haruna did not follow the customary protocols recognized by the Ibadan traditional system.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the Olubadan’s Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, the monarch affirmed that Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa remains the duly recognized Baale of Sasa land and the official representative of the Olubadan in that domain.

The statement stressed that all residents and groups in Sasa land fall under the jurisdiction of the Baale, and any efforts to undermine his authority would attract strict penalties.

“Let it be known that all individuals and associations in Sasa land are subject to the authority of Baale Akinade Ajani. It is essential that he be given the respect and recognition his position demands. Any act of insubordination will be viewed as a direct insult to the Olubadan throne and will be dealt with accordingly,” the statement concluded.
