The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has revealed that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) does not claim responsibility for criminal activities in the Southeast because many of its members are educated.

In an interview with Arise TV on Friday, General Musa acknowledged that while IPOB denies involvement in criminal acts in the region, they are believed to be behind much of the criminal activity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HEREâ–¶

He further explained that security in the Southeast has significantly improved, especially following the arrest of Simon Ekpa by Finnish authorities. He commended the people of the region for speaking out against criminal activities.

“With the arrest of Simon Ekpa, things have drastically changed. For the first time, people are beginning to speak up in the Southeast. The stay-at-home order is now losing its influence, and I’m confident it will end soon. We are working closely with the governors, engaging everyone because warfare is primarily about communication. When you’re silent, people don’t understand what you’re doing, which causes problems. We are uniting everyone, making them realize their responsibilities, and that has led to our success,” he said.

On why IPOB denies its role in criminal activities, unlike the bandits and terrorists in the North, General Musa noted that many IPOB members are more educated than the largely illiterate bandits in the North.

“They always deny it, but it’s clear to everyone that they are responsible. It’s IPOB, ESN, and other criminal groups. Criminals often exploit the chaos caused by impunity. The difference lies in the nature of the individuals involved. Most of the bandits in the North are illiterate and less aware of the consequences of their actions. However, some in the Southeast understand the legal implications, which is why they want to avoid prosecution. This awareness is why they stay quiet,” he explained.

General Musa emphasized that the progress in the fight against criminality is due to the cooperation of all stakeholders, as well as strong support from the presidency.
