Music Producer Sarz Exposes Power Crisis: “I Can’t Remember A Full Day Of Electricity In Nigeria

In a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Sarz spoke about how frequent power outages negatively affect Nigeria’s creative industry, noting that moments of inspiration often go to waste due to the lack of electricity.

The 36-year-old revealed that despite being born and raised in Nigeria, he has never experienced a full 24 hours of electricity.

“I was born and raised in this country, and I have never had electricity for 24 hours straight. There are times when I wake up full of ideas, ready to create music, but there’s no light. Even simple tasks, like buying fuel, can be hampered by strikes or shortages. You end up doing nothing, and that potential is wasted,” he said.

Sarz added, “As a creative, you need to be mentally charged to perform at your best. When the infrastructure isn’t there at the very moment your mind is ready, it becomes a real challenge.”

He stressed that adequate infrastructure is crucial for the entertainment sector to flourish, emphasizing that Nigeria’s creative industry continues to be constrained by poor facilities.
