This request was made during a courtesy visit by Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geise, to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja. The partnership aims to explore training opportunities and share expertise with the Namibian Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to a statement on the ICPC’s website, Nigeria holds a significant position in the African anti-corruption landscape, and its experiences should be shared with other countries on the continent. Ambassador Geise noted that Namibia has its own anti-corruption agency, the Anti-Corruption Commission of Namibia (ACC), and expressed interest in learning from Nigeria’s successes, particularly in asset recovery efforts by the ICPC and EFCC.
ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, welcomed Geise’s visit during the launch of the ICPC’s Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028. He emphasized that the fight against corruption in Africa requires collaboration and expressed the commission’s readiness to partner with other anti-corruption agencies to combat corruption effectively.
Dr. Aliyu stated, “Corruption networks are widespread, and it is crucial for us on the continent to unite in order to disrupt these illegal activities. Together, we can promote good governance and attract vibrant foreign direct investment.”
He also acknowledged a Memorandum of Understanding signed by his predecessor, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, and reiterated the ICPC’s openness to support the Namibian Anti-Corruption Commission. The ICPC offers training through its Anti-Corruption Academy, and Dr. Aliyu expressed hope for mutual learning opportunities between the two nations in their anti-corruption endeavors.
