National Grid Faces 12th Collapse: TCN Explains Causes And Next Steps
....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has explained the reason for the national grid’s 11th collapse this year, which occurred shortly after a similar incident earlier in the week. According to Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Thursday’s collapse resulted from an unexpected frequency surge in the grid system.

In her statement, Mrs. Mbah noted that the frequency shift, from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz, was triggered by a malfunction at one of TCN’s substations, which was subsequently shut down to prevent further system disruptions. She explained that TCN immediately initiated recovery measures, restoring power to the Abuja area within minutes, with efforts ongoing to stabilize other regions.

To address this and previous grid collapses, TCN has begun extensive repair work on critical transmission lines and substations, including the 330kV Shiroro–Mando line and upgrades at the Jebba Transmission Substation. Additionally, TCN is working to restore the second 330kV line between Ugwuaji and Apir. These measures aim to strengthen weak points identified in recent investigations.

Mrs. Mbah acknowledged that while repairs are underway, temporary instabilities may continue until all work is completed. She reassured the public of TCN’s commitment to improving grid reliability and asked for patience as the company implements recommended upgrades to enhance grid stability.

TCN remains dedicated to addressing these issues, recognizing the importance of a stable power supply for Nigeria’s economic growth.
