Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have achieved a major breakthrough in their efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria. During interdictions in Lagos, Adamawa, Osun, and Ogun states, they successfully seized a total of 4,560 kilograms of skunk, a potent form of cannabis.

In addition to the skunk seizures, the NDLEA conducted a raid on a skucchies factory in Ogun state, resulting in the arrest of four members of a drug syndicate. Among those apprehended were two church officials from Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministries in Warri, Delta state. The individuals arrested were found to be involved in trafficking the lethal opioid drug, fentanyl, which is 100 times more potent than heroin. Fentanyl has been a major contributor to overdose deaths, both fatal and non-fatal, in the United States.

The recent arrests in Warri were part of an intelligence-led investigation into the syndicate behind the distribution of fentanyl. The NDLEA also seized two consignments of the illicit drug linked to officials of the Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministries. The arrested individuals, Adewale Abayomi Ayeni and Ebipakebina Appeal, were connected to the management of the church’s prayer call center and the facilitation of international guests.

During the course of the investigation, two female accomplices were also arrested. Naomi David, a staff member of United Parcel Services (UPS), and Stacy Njideka, also known as Nkiruka, a business associate of Ayeni, were apprehended in Warri.

In separate operations, NDLEA operatives intercepted a vehicle in Adamawa state, recovering a large quantity of compressed cannabis sativa hidden in a false compartment. They also arrested a suspect in Lagos who was transporting a significant amount of skunk in his truck. Furthermore, an abandoned bus containing bags of fresh pepper used to conceal cannabis sativa was recovered in Osun state.

Lastly, a skucchies factory was raided in Ogun state, leading to the arrest of Adekunle Adekola and the seizure of various exhibits including cannabis, skucchies, codeine, deep freezers, a generator, and gas cylinders.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the efforts of the officers involved in these operations. He urged them and their colleagues nationwide to remain focused on the goal of eradicating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country. The NDLEA continues to demonstrate its commitment to fighting the drug menace and ensuring a safer society for all.
