There are reports suggesting that notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has established a new operational base in Sokoto State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The base is located in the Indaduwa Forest, about three kilometers northwest of Bula village, near the borders of Gundumi, Galadi, Maradun, and Raba in Sokoto.

Counterterrorism and insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, shared these details in a post on his X account on Sunday.

Makama noted that the group’s activities are extending into areas bordering Galadi, Maradun, Gundumi, and Raba.

According to Makama, this new base, which was set up around three weeks ago, is linked to recent violent incidents in the region, such as the blockade of the Isa-Marnona road. He also reported that an ambush targeting security forces on the Gundumi-Isa Road on December 21 was allegedly carried out by members of Turji’s group operating from this base.

Additionally, Makama revealed that more than 40 individuals are believed to be held hostage by Turji’s group in the Indaduwa Forest. Ransom payments are reportedly facilitated through informants in Marnona and Gidan Rana, near the Gundumi-Isa Road. Survivors recently released from captivity have confirmed the gang’s activities in the area.

Sources claim that the group operating from this new base has been responsible for kidnappings, ambushes, and other criminal acts targeting residents and travelers. Informants in Illela and Marnona are said to be aiding the gang by providing intelligence and facilitating ransom payments.

Makama further highlighted two main reasons behind the establishment of this base: conflict with rival bandits and unresolved feuds. Turji is reportedly engaged in a longstanding feud with the Maniya group, inherited from his father, Rugga Chida, which led to the violent death of Kachalla Dullun, a key figure in the Maniya group. Turji views this new base as a strategic position to disrupt the Maniya group’s operations in the Dutsin Gwauro area, their headquarters.
