“The cycle of retaliation risks plunging the Middle East into deeper instability, with serious implications for international security and economic development,” the statement added.

Nigeria also appealed to the international community—especially the United Nations Security Council—to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and facilitate meaningful dialogue between the parties.

“As a country deeply rooted in principles of peaceful coexistence and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria calls on all parties to prioritise dialogue over confrontation,” the government stated, reaffirming its readiness to support genuine peace-building efforts in the region.

The condemnation follows a significant Israeli airstrike campaign on Friday, targeting around 100 sites across Iran, including nuclear and military installations. The attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian military officials, including General Mohammad Bagheri and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Hossein Salami.

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei labelled the strikes a “declaration of war,” vowing bitter consequences for Israel. The Iranian military also warned of limitless retaliation.

The escalating conflict has triggered global alarm, with multiple nations urging immediate diplomatic intervention to prevent a wider war.
