Nigeria Takes The Lead As Preferred Destination For Tech Startups, Reports Communications Minister

This revelation came during his opening statement at the commencement of the 2023 Digital Nigeria International Conference in Abuja.

In his address during the two-day event held from October 24 to October 26, Tijani emphasized Nigeria’s status as Africa’s foremost location for technology startups.

He commended the pioneering efforts of organizations like NITDA, Galaxy Backbone, and other innovative firms within the country, which have established a strong foundation for technology development.

Tijani highlighted that out of the $5 million invested in tech startups across Africa, 20 percent of that sum is channeled to Nigeria.

He stated, “Today, Nigeria is the top destination for technology startup capital in Africa, with about $5 million invested in tech startups on the continent last year, and we received 20 percent of that total investment, exclusively for Nigeria. So, we acknowledge the remarkable work that has been accomplished.”

Kashifu Abdullahi, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), asserted that this conference is aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed Hope Agenda, aiming for inclusive economic growth, enhanced productivity, and prosperity for all.
