The Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state, has successfully intercepted a collection of illicit goods, including 1080 sacks of donkey meat and 371 parcels of Indian hemp, with an estimated value of ninety-four million Naira, at the Kawara water-side in Suru local government area.
In a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the area controller, recounted the commitment expressed ten years ago during the last briefing, in which the command pledged to clamp down on smugglers, especially those dealing in drugs and other harmful items detrimental to health and the nation’s economy….CONTINUE READING
Dr. Oramalugo stated that the command had instructed its personnel to intensify surveillance across the entire state. Utilizing intelligence reports, the command successfully seized a significant haul of contraband, including donkey meat, Indian hemp, and other items, collectively valued at 94 million Naira.
The confiscated items comprised 371 parcels of Indian hemp, 1080 sacks of donkey meat, 98 packages of diazepam, 300 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 37 bags of foreign rice, 16 bags of second-hand clothing, and a used Toyota Corolla car. The total duty paid value of these items reached 94 million Naira.
In a collaborative effort aimed at fostering interagency cooperation, the controller handed over the seized items to officials from the state’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This step aligns with the policy direction of the new acting Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi Adewale.
Dr. Oramalugo urged the people of Kebbi state to provide unwavering support to the customs command, assisting in the identification and apprehension of smugglers and other criminals operating within the state.
