Idris made this statement in response to recent coups in two African countries, namely Niger Republic and Gabon.
“There is absolutely no reason for fear or apprehension,” declared the minister. “We have progressed significantly, and Nigeria has been a democratic nation for an extended period, with our democratic institutions continually strengthening….CONTINUE READING
“Nigeria is a unique country, and Nigerians are no longer willing to accept such actions. At this stage of our national development, it would be exceedingly difficult for anyone to attempt such an act, or for us to harbor any concerns.
We possess robust democratic institutions, making it highly improbable for anyone to resort to armed conflict against the state. Therefore, there is no reason for apprehension.”
“We must stand united against military takeovers anywhere on the continent. However, this should not be misconstrued as a sign of fear that such an event might occur in Nigeria. The fact that it occurred elsewhere does not necessitate living in fear. We have progressed beyond that.”
Notably, the recent military takeover in Gabon marks the seventh coup on the African continent within the past three years, as reported by Politics Nigeria.
