Despite Tinubu’s request for governors to replicate this gesture, some state leaders have failed to comply. According to Legit, 15 states have not complied, while 7 have stopped payments.

The wage award aimed to alleviate economic hardship for workers until the new minimum wage is implemented. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the governors’ refusal to pay, describing it as highly insensitive.

Here is a list of some states that have not paid or have only partially paid:

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom: Governor Eno has assured that his administration is ready to pay the agreed minimum wage once it is passed into law.

Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers: Fubara has not paid the wage award eight months after the federal government began payments, stating that his government is waiting for the tripartite committee’s outcome.

Governor Oborevwori of Delta: Oborevwori Sheriff has not begun wage award payments. Delta’s Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, mentioned that a committee will address wage-related issues.

Governor Otti of Abia: Otti has not started paying the wage award, with his administration still reviewing the matter. The NLC has urged him to approve the ₦35,000 wage award to ease workers’ economic hardship.

Nasir Idris of Kebbi State: Despite announcing the formation of a committee to devise a workable minimum wage, Governor Idris’s leadership has not begun wage award payments.

Other states that have yet to start or have partially paid include:

Babagana Zulum of Borno: Zulum has distributed food and palliatives but not the wage award.

Mai Mala Buni of Yobe: Buni has also distributed food and palliatives without paying the wage award.

Umaru Radda of Katsina: Radda has paid ₦15,000 and ₦10,000 twice to workers and pensioners.

Bala Muhammad of Bauchi: Muhammad paid ₦10,000 during Eid-el-Fitr and provided food palliatives.

Muhammed Bago of Niger: Bago paid ₦20,000 once.

Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa: Sule paid ₦10,000 twice and ₦5,000 to pensioners for four months.

Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau: Mutfwang paid ₦12,000 for six months.
