Present at the State House for the briefing were members of the federal government team from the Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage.

Notable attendees included Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari.

The meeting with the President occurred an hour before negotiations resumed between labour and government, following the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) announcing the suspension of their industrial action to facilitate further discussions with the government.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume had assured organized labour on Monday that President Tinubu is committed to offering a new minimum wage exceeding ₦60,000.

Following Monday’s meeting aimed at addressing the industrial crisis, the government and labour resolved:

  1. President Bola Tinubu is committed to a minimum wage surpassing ₦60,000.
  2. No worker will face victimization due to the industrial action.
  3. The meeting was deemed realistic and productive.
  4. The tripartite committee will convene daily for one week.
