Dauda Samaila Agbu, the chairman of Wukari Local Government, confirmed the attack and expressed his deep concern over the incident. He revealed that Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound during the attack and was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical care. “Her condition was stabilised before she was transferred to Abuja for additional treatment,” Agbu told Daily Post.
The council chairman urged the local population to remain calm and assured them that steps were being taken to apprehend those responsible for the assault.
The Taraba State Police Command also confirmed the attack through its Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi, who described the incident as an armed robbery. However, Abdullahi did not confirm any direct link between the victims and the governor. He stated that one individual in the vehicle suffered gunshot injuries during the attack.
As of the time of this report, the state government had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
