Despite acknowledging challenges in funding and equipment, Raji emphasized the unparalleled quality of medical trainees in Nigeria. He pointed out the dual nature of medical school training, encompassing basic medical sciences and clinical sciences. In the latter, students engage in hands-on experiences within hospitals, a distinctive feature that sets Nigerian medical education apart.

Raji compared this practical approach to medical training with practices in other parts of the world, where lectures are often didactic, and virtual simulations replace direct patient interactions. Reflecting on his own experiences dissecting human bodies during anatomy studies, he contrasted it with foreign institutions relying on computer simulations.

He particularly highlighted the emphasis on practicality in Nigerian medical education, recounting how, during his clinicals, he signed off on numerous intravenous (IV) lines within the first month. In contrast, he noted that some international medical graduates may not have similar hands-on experiences, leading to difficulties when attempting the practical-based examinations of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) upon coming to Nigeria.

Raji acknowledged that despite the outstanding quality of medical education in Nigerian universities, they face challenges similar to those of hospitals, including funding limitations and inadequate equipment. He noted that the equipment available during his own medical school years might have been more substantial compared to the present situation, compounded by an increase in the number of medical students.

Highlighting the dilemma faced by universities, Raji explained that while they may wish to upgrade facilities, funding constraints and the reluctance to increase tuition fees pose significant obstacles. He recognized the need for periodic facility upgrades but acknowledged the financial constraints that hinder such improvements in the current university environment.
