Richard has been detained for approximately 10 days following a petition from Davidson Adejuwon, reported to be a lawyer and aide to the church founder, Dr. Daniel Olukoya.
However, despite an earlier report by SaharaReporters indicating that the High Court in Lagos State had ruled the prolonged detention of Richard unjustifiable and ordered the police to release him promptly, compliance has not been forthcoming.
Ayotunde Richards also initiated legal action against the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Olukoya, citing an alleged violation of his fundamental human rights. The respondents in the case include Davison Olaniran Adejuwon Esq; Superintendent of Police Tawose Ayoleyi Ajayi, and the Nigeria Police Force.

Providing an update on the situation, Richard’s wife disclosed that the police expressed reluctance to comply with the court’s directive, citing concerns for Richard’s safety outside their custody.
“Within our premises, he is safe, but once he is released, he is no longer safe,” a police source reportedly informed Richard’s wife, emphasizing potential risks to his life if he were to be set free.
Additionally, Richard’s lawyer, Adeshina Ogunlana, confirmed the police’s intention to arraign him before a Federal High Court on Monday, further complicating his legal predicament.
