on

As of May 2025, cooking gas prices in Nigeria have seen a significant drop, bringing welcome relief to households and businesses that depend on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for cooking and other energy needs.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The latest pricing now stands at approximately ₦1,050 per kilogram, with the following breakdown:

  • 1kg of LPG – ₦1,050

  • 3kg – ₦3,150

  • 5kg – ₦5,250

  • 10kg – ₦10,500

  • 12.5kg – ₦13,125

This marks a considerable reduction from previous months, when the price per kilogram ranged between ₦1,200 and ₦1,400 in states such as Lagos and Ogun.

Why Prices Are Dropping

1. Lower Petrol Prices:
A recent dip in petrol costs has lessened pressure on LPG prices. According to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), higher petrol prices often lead to increased LPG demand, pushing prices up. Now, reduced petrol demand has eased this pressure.

2. Government Intervention:
Policies such as the ban on LPG exports, introduced in November 2024, are designed to boost domestic supply and stabilize prices locally.

3. Boost in Local Production:
More than 70% of LPG used in Nigeria is now sourced locally. This reduced dependency on imports has shielded consumers from volatile global prices.

4. Regional Variations Still Apply:
Despite the overall decrease, actual prices vary depending on the region and distributor. Urban centers like Lagos and Abuja may offer slightly lower rates, while rural areas could see marginally higher prices due to transport and distribution factors.

While the downward trend is encouraging, energy experts caution that long-term price stability will rely on sustained government support, local production growth, and international market trends.
