Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) took to the headquarters of the Labour party in the Utako area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, this morning, March 20, in protest.

Led by Theophilus Ndubuaku, the acting Chairman of the Political Commission of the Congress, the union members demanded the immediate resignation of Julius Abure as the national chairman of the party. They asserted that Abure was not duly elected to the position.

Ndubuaku contended that the party convention slated to be held in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state, on March 27, is unauthorized. He claimed that Abure intends to secure his re-election as party chairman at this convention, which they deem illegal.

Despite the absence of any party officials at the headquarters, the labour leaders have taken over the premises, while officers of the Nigeria Police Force are stationed there to prevent any acts of vandalism.

The protesting union members, who remain steadfast at the Labour Party headquarters, are vocally expressing their grievances against Abure, accusing him of financial misappropriation.
