At a press briefing on Monday in Kaduna, NMA State Chairman Dr. Madaki Sheyin expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in kidnappings affecting their members and their families. He emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to prevent such incidents.

Despite assurances from both state and federal security agencies, Dr. Popoola, who is a breastfeeding mother, remains in captivity. Sheyin highlighted the worsening condition of Dr. Popoola and called for intensified efforts from security agencies to ensure her release.

Sheyin also urged Governor Sani, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, to take immediate action to rescue Dr. Popoola and restore her to her family and colleagues. He stressed the importance of securing all health facilities across the state to ensure the safety of healthcare workers who provide essential services round the clock.

In addition, the NMA is developing a security and kidnap prevention advisory for its members. The upcoming Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference, scheduled for 10th August, will address strategies for improving healthcare delivery amidst current challenges, with a focus on safety and legal issues in medical practice.

The forum expressed support for Governor Sani’s efforts to improve the healthcare sector despite financial constraints and mismanagement by previous administrations. They also urged continued commitment to healthcare amidst ongoing national protests and advised members to remain vigilant.
