Northern Elders Urge Tinubu To Advocate For Dismissal Of Army Leadership In Wake Of Kaduna Bombing

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is demanding the resignation of top military officials in the aftermath of a bombing that claimed the lives of 85 villagers and injured several others in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Professor Usman Yusuf, a public affairs analyst and member of the NEF, made this call during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Prof. Yusuf expressed disappointment that, in other countries, the military leadership would have already submitted their resignation letters following such a tragic incident. He lamented that instead of protecting the citizens from external threats, the military, in this case, had caused harm to the people.

According to the NEF member, all top military officials, including the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Officer Commanding (GOC), and other operatives, should resign in the wake of the tragedy.

Meanwhile, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff, and Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, visited the families of the deceased victims and those injured in hospitals in Kaduna. They expressed regret over the incident, apologized to the people of the state, and assured them that steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence.

Despite these visits and promises, Prof. Yusuf emphasized the need for an independent investigation into the incident. He argued that the army could not effectively investigate itself and called for the formation of a high-powered committee, led by a retired Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), to ensure an impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the bombing.
