NURTW President Responds To Police Arrest, Urges Peaceful Conduct And Union Unity

The police had summoned Baruwa and former Lagos State chairman of the union, Tajudeen Agbede, for investigation in relation to alleged plans of protest at the union’s National Secretariat in Garki 2, Abuja.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Baruwa called upon NURTW members to uphold the law, avoid actions that could disrupt public peace, and maintain a lawful demeanor in their respective regions.
He encouraged state-level members to continue their regular activities without hindrance, emphasizing that the union was actively working toward resolving the matter at hand.
Baruwa highlighted the longstanding commitment of NURTW to peaceful conduct and expressed the organization’s determination to protect its reputation and accomplishments.
He also acknowledged the swift intervention of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by Comrade Joe Ajaero, during the crisis.
Expressing gratitude, Baruwa conveyed, “We extend our gratitude to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and our members at the state councils and branches for their support and intervention in this matter.”
Addressing the issue of his arrest, Baruwa confirmed that he had been released from police custody. He cautioned NURTW members against making statements that could incite tension within the union.
In conclusion, Baruwa urged state chairmen and members to prioritize the interests of the union above personal concerns and collaborate harmoniously to elevate the status of the union.
