Former Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana and two-time Minister, Musiliu Obanikoro, has condemned remarks made by All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Anthony Adefuye, in support of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obasa, representing Agege 1 Constituency, was removed from office on January 13 over alleged misconduct and replaced by his former deputy, Mojisola Meranda. Denying the allegations, Obasa claimed his impeachment process was flawed and lacked due process.

In a recent interview, Adefuye, a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), echoed Obasa’s sentiments, asserting that the impeachment was illegal. “What he is saying is that he was illegally removed and the procedure was faulty, and I agree with him,” Adefuye remarked.

Responding to Adefuye’s statement, Obanikoro dismissed it as “unfortunate, childish, and inconsequential.” He criticized the APC leader for making public comments on such a sensitive issue without the consensus of the GAC.

“Senator Adefuye’s remarks were unnecessary. As leaders, it is inappropriate to rush into making personal or press statements on serious matters of this nature,” Obanikoro said during an interview on Sunday.

The former minister underscored the need for discipline and respect for hierarchy within the APC and GAC. He noted that President Bola Tinubu had already intervened in the issue, making Adefuye’s public commentary unwarranted.

“Our leader, the President of Nigeria, has stepped in to address the matter, so no individual should make unilateral comments based on privileged access,” Obanikoro added.

He urged GAC members to exercise restraint and refrain from making divisive statements that could disrupt the party’s internal processes. “Since the GAC as a body has not issued any official statement on this issue, it is irresponsible for any member to go public with their personal opinions on such a sensitive matter,” Obanikoro concluded.
