Ojudu Reveals: How Obasanjo Fought Back After Fayose Impeachment Drama
Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Babafemi Ojudu, has admitted orchestrating the impeachment of Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Fayose, who became Ekiti’s governor on May 29, 2003, after defeating the incumbent, Niyi Adebayo, faced impeachment during his tenure, a move Ojudu now claims to have masterminded with the backing of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking on Edmund Obilo’s podcast, State Affairs, published Thursday, Ojudu revealed that his alliance with Obasanjo eventually turned sour after the former president realized the extent of Ojudu’s actions.
“I plotted and scripted Fayose’s impeachment in Ekiti,” Ojudu stated. “I used Obasanjo, and when he realized what I had done, he fought back. I had an agreement to ensure Fayose was impeached but his deputy remained untouched. I took the lawmakers to Lagos, kept them in hotels, fed them, and handled all logistics.”
Ojudu explained that Obasanjo became angry and attempted to reinstate Fayose’s deputy with military support. However, Ojudu claimed to have mobilized resistance against the deputy’s proclamation, which ultimately led to the declaration of a state of emergency in Ekiti.
Fayose later filed a libel suit against Ojudu, who was represented in court by human rights lawyer Femi Falana. “I presented my facts in court, and Justice Daramola told Fayose, ‘you have no honour and integrity,’” Ojudu recounted.
