Okogbe Takes Legal Stand Against Edo Assembly’s Alleged Illegal Suspension

The suspension of Donald Okogbe, representing Akoko-Edo II under the PDP, along with two other lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly, has drawn sharp criticism. According to reports from Naija News, the Edo House of Assembly took this action on Monday, citing an alleged plot to impeach Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and other key officers.

Accusations against Okogbe and his colleagues include claims of being swayed by external influences to disrupt proceedings and overthrow the House’s leadership. Additionally, they were accused of introducing traditional healers into the Assembly premises during the late hours of Wednesday.

In response to their suspension, Okogbe condemned the lack of due process, asserting its illegality. He emphasized that any decision by the Assembly must be reached through proper resolution procedures, involving motions, seconding, and voting. Okogbe highlighted the Speaker’s unilateral pronouncement of their suspension without following these protocols, leading to an outcry and an abrupt adjournment.

Regarding the alleged involvement with traditional practices (“Juju”), Okogbe clarified that the Speaker purportedly possessed a video showing a member entering the House accompanied by an individual resembling a traditional healer. However, Okogbe explained that the member had merely visited to inspect his parked vehicle, responding to concerns about unauthorized usage. Furthermore, he clarified that a constituent had spontaneously prayed for the member with kolanut as a gesture of goodwill, indicating that this incident was unrelated to him.

As the situation unfolds, Okogbe’s response underscores concerns over procedural irregularities and refutes allegations linking him to occult practices.
