Okoye Shines With First Serie A Penalty Save but Udinese Collapse in 3–0 Defeat.
Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye recorded his first-ever penalty save in Serie A on Saturday, though the milestone did little to soften the disappointment of a heavy 3–0 defeat to Bologna. Despite the early boost, Udinese were overwhelmed after the break as Bologna capitalised on repeated defensive errors to seal a comfortable victory. Speaking after the match, Okoye told the club’s media channel that while the penalty save was a personal highlight, the overall performance exposed persistent defensive frailties.
He acknowledged his own mistake leading to Bologna’s second goal and stressed the need for collective improvement, noting that the team’s high-risk playing style often leaves them vulnerable. Okoye insisted that reducing errors must be a priority, beginning with himself.
The former Watford goalkeeper urged his teammates to remain united and concentrate on the next fixture, emphasising that results must accompany good football. Since making his return from a betting-related suspension in October, Okoye has re-established himself as a key figure for Udinese, and his recent form is expected to intensify the battle for Nigeria’s No. 1 spot as the Africa Cup of Nations approaches.
