Ondo Drama! Deputy Governor ‘Locked Out’ Of Official Residence, Forced Into Hotels
Half a year after assuming office, Ondo State Deputy Governor, Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, has yet to gain access to his official residence, forcing him to lodge in hotels across Akure—a situation reportedly costing the state over ₦130 million in accommodation and related expenses for him and his aides.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sources told SaharaReporters the standoff stems from political mistrust, with both the deputy governor’s lodge and a newly renovated VIP lodge at Government House allegedly kept off-limits to avoid a “power struggle.”
Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and APC governorship aspirant, was nominated on January 24, 2024, sworn in on February 1, and publicly praised by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his “integrity and experience.” Their political partnership was recently upheld by the Court of Appeal, which dismissed election challenges against their ticket.
However, insiders say frictions persist, claiming the governor relies heavily on Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac, whose influence has drawn opposition criticism over alleged budget padding, questionable allocations, and a viral video of her spraying ₦500 notes in public.
Ironically, Adelami’s current predicament mirrors the treatment Aiyedatiwa himself endured as deputy under the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in 2023, when he was sidelined and nearly impeached before President Bola Tinubu intervened.
The state government has yet to comment on Adelami’s accommodation or the controversies surrounding the finance ministry.
