Ongoing Challenges Ahead: Cash Shortages Set To Persist....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The persistent cash circulation crisis in Nigeria shows no signs of abating, with reports indicating that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is preparing to launch an investigation into the matter.

Customers of banks have been vocal about the acute shortage of cash, facing daily withdrawal limits as low as N10,000 to N20,000 from both bank counters and ATMs. Many ATMs remain empty for days, exacerbating the situation.

Interestingly, Point of Sales (PoS) operators adjacent to banks seem unaffected, continuing to dispense cash to customers. This discrepancy has led to suspicions among bank customers that some form of collusion exists between banks and PoS operators, potentially resulting in additional charges for withdrawals.

However, both banks and PoS operators deny any wrongdoing, attributing the scarcity to genuine cash shortages and difficulties in accessing funds from banks. PoS operators, who previously withdrew substantial sums from banks, now face strict limits, forcing them to seek cash from alternative sources like traders and businesses.

CBN sources express concern over the situation, especially since banks report shortages despite adequate cash supply from the CBN. An impending investigation aims to uncover any malpractice and ensure accountability among banks.

Recent CBN data reveals a decline in Currency Outside Banks (CoB), suggesting a reduction in cash availability within the financial system. Analysts view this as a reflection of the ongoing cash scarcity issue.

In summary, while banks and PoS operators grapple with cash shortages, the CBN’s planned investigation seeks to address concerns and enforce compliance within the financial sector.
