Osun APC Leader Urges President Tinubu: Step In To Curb Soaring Cooking Gas Prices....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to swiftly intervene in the escalating cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, across the nation.
Expressing his concerns to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye highlighted the unbearable burden the soaring prices of cooking gas impose on the populace. Despite the government’s directive, as announced by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, to halt LPG exports, the intended reduction in local prices has not materialized.
Oyintiloye voiced suspicion that clandestine exportation by LPG producers could be fueling the price surge. He emphasized that the current rates, ranging between N17,500 and N18,000 for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder, are alarming. Many consumers, unable to afford these exorbitant prices, are resorting to traditional solid fuels like charcoal and firewood for cooking.
However, this shift poses grave environmental and health risks. Oyintiloye cautioned against exacerbating climate change and its associated consequences, such as deforestation and soil degradation, due to increased demand for solid fuels. Moreover, he highlighted the health hazards posed by air pollution from carbon monoxide emissions, which can lead to respiratory issues and other health complications.
In light of these challenges, Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to take decisive action to reduce cooking gas prices, safeguarding both the welfare of the populace and the country’s ecosystem. He stressed that amidst the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, access to affordable means of cooking should not be further compromised.
