While acknowledging that Emefiele might have made incorrect decisions in managing Nigeria’s monetary policy, Bakare argued against using him as a scapegoat.

Bakare expressed his views that events leading up to the 2023 presidential election indicated a potential political vendetta against Emefiele by President Bola Tinubu. However, he also emphasized that if Emefiele is proven guilty of any wrongdoing, he should be prosecuted.

Bakare further scrutinized the Department of State Services (DSS) for their role in Emefiele’s arrest and detention. He raised concerns about their adherence to professionalism and the rule of law, suggesting that their actions might reflect a bias in the handling of cases.

The cleric underscored the need for fairness and transparency in dealing with Emefiele’s case, pointing out that a balanced approach would strengthen the credibility of the government’s anti-corruption efforts.

He cautioned against an impression of political motivations overshadowing genuine efforts to combat corruption, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of the nation’s institutions.
