The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has called on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to urgently make the financial statement of the state public. The party expressed particular concern about the issue of palliative funds totaling N7 billion, stating that the residents of the state have not reported receiving any palliatives and are seeking answers from the administration regarding the allocation and distribution of the funds.
During a press conference at the state secretariat of the party in Akure, the state capital, the chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, Hon. Fatai Adams, emphasized the importance of transparency in the management of the state’s resources. Adams asserted that the resources and finances of the state are the commonwealth of the people, and as such, the party is duty-bound to demand accountability in their management.
Adams further called for Governor Akeredolu to transmit power to his deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, emphasizing the seriousness and complexity of administering the affairs of the state. He noted that governance is not a “tea party or picnic,” highlighting the need for a smooth and effective transition of power.
The PDP chairman criticized the lack of financial updates to the citizens during Akeredolu’s tenure, pointing out what he described as curious and inexplicable expenditures. He demanded a balance sheet on the finances of the state, citing the precedent set by previous administrations in providing regular account updates to the public.
In conclusion, Adams urged the government to promptly render an account of how the palliative funds were spent and to take appropriate actions to address any perceived discrepancies in the administration of the funds. The party emphasized its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the governance of Ondo State.
