PDP Showdown: Bode George Says Atiku’s 2027 Bid Will Destroy The Party

George explained that although Atiku was the party’s presidential candidate in the last election, this does not automatically make him the leader of the PDP. He further emphasized that while Atiku is advocating for an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, his stance is not aligned with the party’s direction, as confirmed by the PDP Governors’ meeting in Ibadan on Monday.
“The fact that he was the presidential candidate doesn’t make him the permanent leader of the party. If Atiku is pursuing his own personal agenda, it’s separate from the party’s interests,” George stated during an interview on Channels Television.
When asked if Atiku could be the PDP’s presidential candidate for 2027, George firmly stated that he could not be. He reiterated that the PDP upholds the principle of power rotation between the North and South.
George further warned that if Atiku were to secure the 2027 presidential ticket, it would signal the end of the party.
“He cannot be. The party’s stance is clear: eight years for the North, eight years for the South. This is the foundational principle of the PDP. While Atiku has the constitutional right to contest, he may choose to join any party. But if he secures the ticket through any form of manipulation like last time, we will not accept it. That would mark the end of this party,” George declared.
