Peter Obi Makes Fresh Appeal To Nigerians: ‘Pray For Us Politicians To Stop Stealing

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has blamed Nigerian politicians for many of the challenges confronting the country.

Obi maintained that Nigeria itself is not the problem, arguing that the major issue lies with those entrusted with leadership and governance.

He made the remarks while speaking to worshippers at Koinonia Global and Eternity Network International, following an invitation from the church’s leader, Apostle Joshua Selman, to address the congregation during Sunday’s worship service.

Obi appeared surprised by the reception he received and said people had gathered at the service for different reasons.

“I don’t know what to say, but people are here for different reasons.

“We are all here for prayers, but pray for us politicians to stop stealing,” Obi said during the service, which was broadcast live on YouTube.

The former presidential candidate further stated that politicians were responsible for the country’s difficulties, stressing that Nigeria has the resources and potential to succeed.

“Politicians are the problem of the country. There is nothing wrong with the country, but the politicians are the issue,” he said.

Obi subsequently appealed to Nigerians to pray for politicians and ask God to change their hearts and discourage corruption.

“Pray for us politicians. Let God touch us to cease stealing. Do not say one is good and another is bad. We (politicians) are the problem of the country,” he added.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s development compared with other nations that had similar beginnings, Obi urged Nigerians to read the book “Growing Apart”, saying it offers insight into how countries that started from comparable positions have taken different paths of development.

He said his experiences abroad had shown him that nations could make significant progress when public officials put the interests of citizens ahead of personal gain.

“I’ve seen things work in other countries. People should refrain from embezzling public funds. If we do the right thing, things will improve,” Obi concluded.
