The former Anambra State governor urged the federal government to extend its efforts beyond the Oronsaye report implementation and actively reduce the cost of governance at all levels. Obi called for a shift away from extravagant and unnecessary spending towards essential sectors like education and health, aiming to uplift people from poverty.

He also urged political leaders to support the implementation with personal sacrifices for the nation’s overall development but cautioned against rushing the process, especially considering the potential impact on civil servants. Obi stressed the necessity of a deep understanding of federal bureaucracy dynamics for effective implementation.

Referring to his prior statements at Harvard University on October 5, 2022, Obi reminded the public of his commitment to Oronsaye Report implementation during his campaigns. He emphasized the three critical components of the report: reducing the cost of governance, eliminating overlapping responsibilities, and enhancing efficiency.

While commending the overdue implementation, Obi called for transparency in revealing the White Paper pertinent to the report’s implementation. He highlighted the importance of informing affected parties about downsizing measures, ensuring a conscious effort to alleviate the impact on workers and disclosing how saved resources would be redeployed.
