The Edo State Police Command has launched an urgent investigation into the death of Mr. Kaduna Eboigbodin, the former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, following an altercation with police officers.
In a statement released by the Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, and made available to journalists in Benin City, the police confirmed that they are taking the incident, which resulted in Eboigbodin’s death, very seriously. The statement, signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, highlighted the police’s commitment to ensuring justice.
Dated December 4, 2024, the statement, titled “RE: Demanding Justice for Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin Following His Avoidable and Untimely Death Due to Unprofessional Conduct by the Nigeria Police Force,” expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Eboigbodin. It also acknowledged concerns about police misconduct related to the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru P. Ozigi, extends heartfelt condolences to the widow, family, friends, and associates of the deceased, praying for the repose of his soul,” the statement read. “He further emphasized the strong working relationship between the Police, Civil Society Organizations, NLC, and other key stakeholders in the State, and has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.”
The statement also reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to the rule of law and to ensuring that justice is served. Commissioner Ozigi reassured the public that the investigation would be thorough, and reiterated the Command’s dedication to ensuring fairness in all cases.
