Commissioner of Police Bertrand Onuoha has ordered a thorough investigation into these allegations. The inspector’s arrest came following the activities of a criminal gang known for robbing houses and stealing cars across the state.

The stolen vehicle was discovered in the workshop of a panel beater associated with Inspector Muhammed, who was in the process of altering its color in Ochadamu, Ofu Local Government Area. Concerned individuals recognized the vehicle from a recent robbery incident on June 14, 2024, and promptly alerted authorities.

The vehicle’s license plate had been changed to one from Abuja, and Inspector Muhammed provided a car dealer’s receipt dated back to 2020 as purported proof of purchase.

Upon apprehension by the Quick Response Unit (QRU) from the Police Area Command in Idah, Inspector Muhammed was taken to the ‘A’ Division in Lokoja. It was subsequently discovered that members of the gang responsible for the robbery had already been apprehended for another offense. One of the gang members, wanted for multiple crimes, confessed to participating in the robbery and implicated Inspector Muhammed as the instigator. He revealed that they had been contracted specifically to steal the car for the inspector.
