The announcement was made by SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, the spokesperson of the command, in a statement released on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. According to SP Anene, the police received intelligence indicating the reassembly of bandits at Mba-Mtsar village in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.
Acting swiftly on this information, the Operation Zenda team launched an assault on the bandit camp on Wednesday afternoon. The ensuing confrontation saw the bandits engaging the police in a firefight. However, the superior firepower and tactical prowess of the operatives prevailed, driving the bandits back.
As a result of the operation, two of the bandits sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Another bandit was captured, while the remaining perpetrators managed to flee the scene, albeit with injuries.
Significantly, the raid yielded a cache of seized items, including one Type 06 rifle, three AK-47 magazines loaded with 7.6mm ammunition, eighty rounds of other ammunition, camouflage uniforms, and an assortment of mobile phones.
Commending the team for their courage and dedication, Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Emmanuel Adesina emphasized the importance of proactive measures in combating crime. He urged the residents of Benue State to collaborate with law enforcement by providing valuable and timely information to aid in the fight against criminal activities.
